We love the seahorse design that features on our marine life product range and in November we met with Neil Garrick-Maidment, founder and Executive Director of The Seahorse Trust to chat through the possibilty of Sails and Canvas doing something to help raise money for the charity.
Neil set up the Trust in 1999 to preserve and conserve the natural world, especially the marine environment, with the seahorse as its flagship species. The Trust makes a difference through education, conservation and campaigning for protected areas. We are proud to say that 10% of sales from our seahorse designs including beach bags, shoppers, mini buckets and bottle bags will be donated to The Seahorse Trust.
The money raised from the sales will go towards helping them to continue their work to protect the local seahorse population at Studland Bay. In 2019, Studland Bay was designated as a Marine Conservation Zone (MCZ). This designation was made specifically because of Studland’s seagrass beds and the habitat and breeding ground they provide for the spiny seahorse, which is a protected species in the UK.
We are hugely excited by this new partnership and having opportunity to play a small part in conserving these wonderful creatures for future generations.
