π Celebrating 10 Years of Sails and Canvas β Saving the Planet One Sail at a Time
In June 2015, we opened the doors to our new workshop here on the Topsham Quay and the very first Sails and Canvas Beach Bag set sail – and what a journey itβs been! That simple yet iconic product landed us in Country Living Magazine later that Summer and marked the beginning of a mission to turn discarded sails into something beautiful, practical, and sustainable.
Now, 10 years later, weβre celebrating a decade of craftsmanship, creativity, and environmental commitment with our all female team

πΏ From Boat to Bag: Our Circular Mission
When the 5p single-use carrier bag charge was introduced in Autumn 2015, we were already thinking long-term. Thatβs when our Shopper βBag for Lifeβ was born. Since then, weβve expanded our classic collection to include flight bags, kit bags, duffles, totes, and more – all handcrafted from recycled sailcloth.
Along the way, weβve added stars, marine life prints, and custom personalisation to make each bag as unique as the journey it took to get here.
π Our Collaborations
Weβre proud to partner with like-minded organisations who share our passion for sustainability:
- Whitby Yard, The Donkey Sanctuary, RNLI Shop
- Royal Museums Greenwich and National Maritime Museum Cornwall
- Plymouth Gin, Orlebar Brown, #2minbeachclean, and Clean Sailors
- And most recently, weβve joined Holly & Co, a beautifully curated marketplace championing female-founded small businesses – where over 90% of sellers are women-led.
β»οΈ Expanding Our βSave Old Sailsβ Scheme
Over the past 18 months, weβve been busy growing our Save Old Sails programme across the South Westβsetting up collection points at sailing clubs in Devon, Dorset, and Cornwall. With 97% of sails still ending up in landfill globally, weβre determined to help change that, one sail at a time.
From boat to bag, we take old sails on a journey that never endsβ¦we call it our eco circle – Sailed. Saved. Sewn.
Every sail has a story – thank you for helping us give them a second life.
π Recognition & Giving Back
Since its inception in 2021, we have proudly supported Exeterβs βWe Can Do Moreβ sustainability event. The initiative focuses on encouraging and inspiring individuals to take small, sustainable actions that positively impact the planet.
In March, we were proud to be finalists at the 2025 Exeter Sustainability Awards in the micro-business category. We didnβt win this time, but being in the room with such passionate change-makers has inspired us to aim even higher next year.
Weβre also continuing our partnership with The Seahorse Trust – donating 10% of every Marine Life Collection sale to support their vital conservation work. This includes our Beach Bags, shoppers, buckets, wash bags and bottle bags.
Thank You for 10 Wonderful Years
None of this would have been possible without our loyal, eco-minded community. Whether youβve been with us from the start or have just discovered us – thank you for helping us sail into a more sustainable future π
